A new shop recently opened in the Domestic Construction community garden space called The Perfect Nothing Catalog: a store and space for art and non-art by local artists and non-artists dealing summer supplies: knives, bathing suits, rocks and herbs, ceramics and surf and skate stuff. Set in an abandoned shack, The Nothing will be hosting artists and non-artists in a series of micro-residencies throughout the summer. Offering a small work space, garden access, and event opportunities.
Check it out at 216 India Street Wednesday through Saturday from 12-8.
Pretty amazing site that aims to bring street art out of galleries and back into the streets, where its intended to be experienced, with a map featuring street art found through out Brooklyn, specifically Greenpoint and Williamsburg. Check it out here! Or just take the map and hit the streets.
Spritzenhaus is a beer garden in the same spirit as Radegast and Berry Park. It’s large and serves beer and sausage but in a more stylish place. There’s a fireplace and a DJ so you know its hip. Feel free to feel hip when you’re here. You have my permission. The bathroom consists of a corridor with single stalls on both sides and a large communal sink at the end. I am a fan of the foot peddle to turn on the water. There’s no mirror in the communal sink area, which is probably to prevent demystifying the ladies’ beauty routine (makeup spackling). I like how many stalls there is, plus the foot peddle, plus the round window. I say 5 flushes.

This bar has been a refuge from the offensive heat many times this summer. They are dog friendly, have an awesome pickle plate, $3 Reissdorf Koelsch, outside seating including an old apple shaped ski lift, and games like an indoor shuffle board table. The art is quirky and seems to have no definite aim other than to make you feel like you’re in a comfortable place. The music is always good too which can be attributed to the nice bartenders. The events are pretty interesting too, like Women’s Arm Wrestling Competitions or screenings of Twin Peaks. The bathrooms are single stalls but there are more than one and they’re very fucking cool, with old cassette tapes covering the walls and plenty of TP. I give it 5 flushes.
